Investing in Community
Community-supported investment provides direct programming support, sliding scale and full tuition coverage for no less than 30% of our students in perpetuity, a living wage for all educators, and facilities upgrades that support our mission to expand access to affordable, high-quality, and - most importantly - child-centered early learning in Asheville, North Carolina.
Every single donation helps, no matter how small, and we are grateful for your support.
At Little Field School, we believe that early childhood is not something to rush through, although it passes in the blink of an eye — it’s something to honor, with full presence and intention as a witness to the magic that unfolds before us.
We are a small, relationship-centered preschool and Kindergarten where children ages 2.5-6 can experience a slower, more connected way of learning. Rooted in Montessori philosophy and inspired by the preschools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, and with a deep respect for childhood, our work is guided by one simple idea: when we care well for young children and their families, we strengthen the entire community.

If giving isn’t possible right now, sharing this effort with others is a powerful way to support us. Thank you for helping us curate a space where children can thrive with a deep sense of belonging in their community.
Why We’re Raising Funds…
As we prepare our new space to welcome children, we are investing in thoughtful, intentional facility upgrades that reflect the values of our school:
Safe, natural outdoor classrooms and play environments
Warm, functional classroom spaces designed to promote independence
Child-scaled materials and furnishings
Improvements that ensure safety, accessibility, and longevity for the program
Rather than pursuing traditional funding alone, we are opening this process to our wider community through what we’re calling a community-sponsored investment.
What This Means
This is an invitation to be part of something meaningful from the ground up. Your contribution directly supports the physical environment that will hold so many years of childhood for generations to come: friendships, discoveries, quiet moments, and transformative growth.
Our Vision
We envision a school that feels like an extension of home. A place where children are truly known, where families feel connected and grounded, and where education is rooted in respect, curiosity, and care.
We believe small schools can have a big impact and that this work is strongest when it’s held collectively by the village surrounding the children.
Mission
To empower learners with self-esteem, value self, peers, and elders alike, develop empathy, and appreciate and enhance our community with a commitment to uplifting diversity toward unity. To co-create with and for children a beautiful, functional, comfortable environment that offers unique learning opportunities inspired by Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies. To invigorate and reimagine early childhood education and imbue children with a love of learning as global scholars through creative exploration of open-ended materials, authentic practical life exercises and experiences, integrated arts curriculum, foreign language exposure, and a wide variety of rich opportunities to enhance foundational skills of early literacy.
